Mesentery may play an important role development and post operative recurrence of Crohn’s disease. Some studies recommend extended resection, similar to what is done for colorectal cancer as it may result in improved outcomes. This however needs to be balanced with potential consequences of more extensive surgery. Professors Coffey and Strong debate pros and cons of extended vs standard resection.
