There have been a number of recent publications about potential role of appendectomy in improving control of Ulcerative Colitis. A number of prospective trials and population trials showed better outcomes in patients needing escalation of care if they underwent appendectomy, while a few well-designed retrospective trials failed to show any difference in outcomes.
