A 59-year-old man is undergoing laparoscopic sigmoid colectomy for sigmoid colon cancer. During the course of mobilization of the splenic flexure to obtain adequate length for a colorectal anastomosis, a 1.5-cm splenic capsular tear is identified on the anterior aspect of the spleen.
